How come when i go to control panel, it says no audio device?

when i go to to control panel and click on sound and audio device everything in the window is all gray and it won't let me click on anything. it also says no audio device. help? please. How come when i go to control panel, it says no audio device?
First, if it is a PC, we reseat the sound card if it is a sound card. If it is an onboard device...we'll treat it like a laptop.

With a laptop, the soundcard can ';disappear'; because something MAY be loose, or it could just be a power issue. It happens on my wife's laptop all the time...andsometimes on my desktop PC. (If restarting the PC into safe mode (press F8 as it boots up to get the prompt) and the restarting back into normal windows doesn't fix it) You'll need to go to the control panel, open system, go to the hardware tab, go to device manager, open up the sound devices and look for your sound device's name and highlight it and then choose remove. You'll then reboot and it should ';refind'; your sound card.

Hopefully that works. Also, be sure you always have the newest drivers from the sound card manufacturer or the laptop manufacturer. How come when i go to control panel, it says no audio device?
Install sound driver.

if you are using windows vista, just make sure that there is a speaker plugged to you computer, if sound drivers are installed. if not, make sure that the driver for your sound card is installed.
Your audio device probably has no drivers installed for it. check you computer distributor's website for the drivers needed
Omg....I have the SAME problem %26amp; its sooo annoying....hopefully someone answers this question...because no one in my house can figure it out.
you need the sound drivers installed

I just answered how to figure out what the sound card is and how to find the drivers online.
