If the hardware shows in device manager then try a system restore to a time when it worked.

If by what you are asking you mean that in Device Manager everything looks OK and the computer recognizes the audio card, and that you just cannot find the icon for manipulation solud level do the following:

Go to-%26gt;Start

Go to-%26gt;Run

Type in:sndvol32.exe

This way you will be able to reach the volume level control. I don't know how to actually fix the problem and have the volume icon in bottom right all the time.
Sounds like your sound card driver is gone or corrupted. If you have the Cd with your drivers on it, i would try reloading your driver or if you know what sound card you have, go to the webpage of the people that made the sound card to download and install the latest drivers.
check your drivers and make sure that your sound card is hooked in correctly..

check and see if the sound card is disable in device manager...

remove drivers and re-install them
wELL, iT'S A VIRUS, YOU SHOULD FORMAT YOUR COMPUTER, BECAUSE THE AUDIO FILE GOT CORRUPTED...
There should be a number below your computer, call it.
You might need a new sound card.
so device manager says you have drivers? (no yellow ';?';)
no
